New: National Plastics Recycling Platform
There is a prominent role for northern companies and institutions in the National Plastics Recycling Platform.
On February 4, 2021, the National Plastics Recycling Platform (NPPR) was launched as a national point of contact in the Netherlands for public-private partnerships in the field of plastics recycling. For the provinces of Drenthe, Fryslan and Groningen, this means an extra voice to achieve their objectives.
Exptertise in the Northern Netherlands
The Northern Netherlands has high ambitions and a lot to offer in the field of Plastics Recycling. There is solid expertise in both mechanical recycling, for example at the National Test Centre for Circular Plastics and Morssinkhof Plastics, and in chemical recycling, such as at CuRe technology. In addition, new processes and plastics are being developed, such as at BioBTX, Teijin, Symeres, Avantium and Senbis. There is close cooperation with the University of Groningen, such as in the InRep program, Hanze University of Applied Sciences and NHL Stenden. Chemport Europe represents these companies, knowledge institutions, and the northern authorities in the NPPR.
New National Platform Plastics Recycling
During the Circular Plastics Conference of ISPT and DPI on February 4, Emmo Meijer (chair of Mission Circular Economy and figurehead Top Sector ChemistryNL) announced the “National Platform Plastics Recycling“. The platform consists of innovative communities from various core disciplines. It will map out the current state of the art and from there identify white spots and opportunities for mutual cooperation. The platform wants to establish new public-private partnerships based on the overview and recommend the government.
Cor Kamminga, of Chemport Europe: “We embrace the launch of the NPPR with great optimism and we expect to make a valuable contribution to it. Intensive cooperation is necessary to make a great leap in plastics recycling. It is about innovative techniques, about closing chains and about making it economically attractive together. The NPPR unites the initiatives, including those from our Chemport region, at a national level. This will increase our innovative strength and accelerate the step to upscaling and commercialization. ”
