Recycling
all kinds of polymers

The Northern Netherlands is a hotbed for innovative plastic recycling. There is a great deal of knowledge of and experience with the recycling of plastics.

Focus area at Chemport Europe

Circular polymers

At various locations in the Chemport region, companies are working to recover polymers from waste, and recycle them via mechanical and chemical recycling. The opportunities for both science and business are huge.

Mechanical recycling

Mechanical recycling is the processing of plastic waste into secondary raw materials or products, where the chemical compounds of the plastics are not broken down. First, waste is sorted into different streams (PET, PP, HDPE, LDPE). Then, these streams are then washed, and mechanically ground and melted by an extruder to create plastic granules.

Chemical recycling

In chemical recycling processes, plastic waste is purified and chemically separated into pure chemical building blocks. These building blocks can be used to manufacture new plastics. It is in fact the best option when it comes to processing more complex plastics.
